Who Beanflow calculates vacation for in Alberta
Beanflow automatically calculates Alberta’s standard vacation tiers. Alberta also publishes worker- and industry-level exceptions. Beanflow does not infer those exceptions from occupation, WCB classification, or company type.

What this page is for
- Use it when Beanflow asks you to confirm that this employee follows Alberta’s standard vacation rules.
- This is product coverage, not a full employment-standards manual. Statutory rates and official sources live on the employment-standards reference.
- Company industry, employment type, occupation, and WCB classification do not decide this.
Confirm coverage when
- Employees covered by Alberta’s ordinary vacation-pay rule (standard 2 weeks / 4%, then 3 weeks / 6% after 5 years of service).
- Office, retail, and other staff at a construction or sales company when the standard rule actually applies to that person.
Do not confirm coverage when
Outside commissioned salesperson
Do not confirm coverage if this person ordinarily works away from the employer’s place of business and is paid by commission. Commission on its own is not enough to decide this.
Construction, brush-clearing, and other special or exempt vacation rules
Alberta publishes separate vacation rules for some construction and brush-clearing work, and other special or exempt occupations. An office employee at a construction company may still follow the standard rule. Do not confirm standard coverage if this person’s vacation is under one of those special or exempt rules.
Company type is not enough
“We are a construction company” or “we are a sales company” is not enough. Alberta’s exceptions attach to the worker and the applicable special rule, not to every employee of that employer.
If you cannot confirm
Do not add this employee to a Beanflow pay group for automatic statutory vacation. Beanflow will not infer construction or outside-sales vacation from industry, WCB, or job title.
