Victoria Day falls mid-week. One hire started Thursday. Another took the day off.
Eligibility is provincial. We apply it that way.

Stat holiday pay follows the rules for that province — not a flat “everyone gets 8 hours” shortcut.

Moving our payroll to BeanFlow was the easiest ops decision I made this year.

As a founder juggling everything at WEVSOCIAL, having it be free, compliant, and actually intuitive means I can stay focused on building and scaling. It's free for Canadian SMBs, the numbers are clean, and when I had a question, support actually helped. I'd tell any founder to just start.

BeanFlow has been such a gem to discover.

Being super cash tight when I first incorporated, I was looking for a cheap payroll software. BeanFlow is more than cheap... It's free! It's saving me more than $600 per year. It's also super intuitive to use for a newbie, and offers great customer service. Can't recommend it enough.

Beanflow vs. paid payroll software.

Beanflow is free to use today, and a Free plan plus a CAD $15/month Basic plan take effect on March 1, 2027. Wagepoint and Wave are paid subscriptions bundling more automated payments and filings. The trade-off is simple: pay for more automation, or keep those steps in your hands.

Q&A

Questions about free payroll and pricing.

Is Beanflow free right now, and when does pricing start?

Beanflow is free to use today — no monthly fee, no per-employee charge, no trial deadline, and no credit card. The Free and Basic plans take effect on March 1, 2027. Every account will be notified before any billing begins.

What will the Free plan include after March 1, 2027?

The Free plan covers up to 2 active employees per month, counted across all companies in your account. It includes payroll setup, accurate CRA-checked calculations, saved payroll results, and paystub previews. Your payroll history and files already generated stay accessible and downloadable. Generating and delivering new paystubs and creating new T4 or ROE files are part of Basic.

How much will Basic cost, and how do multiple companies work?

Basic will be CAD $15 per month and includes your first 2 active employees. Each additional active employee adds CAD $3 per month. Pricing is per account: all of your companies count together, so companies are never charged separately, and the number of payroll runs is unlimited. An account with 1 company and 4 active employee records costs the same as an account with 3 companies and 4 active employee records in total.

How is an active employee counted?

Employees are counted per billing month. An employee is active for a month when they take part in a payroll run you approve during that month — running payroll for the same employee several times in the month still counts them once. Employees you have created or imported but who are not in an approved payroll run that month do not count. The count covers all companies in your account, and each month's count will be shown in plain language in the product.

What do current users get when the plans take effect?

Current accounts keep their existing free access through February 28, 2027. On March 1, 2027, the Free and Basic plans take effect for everyone. If you have not chosen a paid Basic subscription by then, your account simply moves to the Free plan — nothing bills automatically, and subscribing is always your choice.

What happens on March 1, 2027 if I do not subscribe?

Nothing bills automatically. Your account moves to the Free plan: up to 2 active employees a month, accurate calculations, saved payroll results, paystub previews, and access to your existing history and documents. New paystub generation and delivery and new T4 or ROE files are part of Basic. Your employees, payroll history, and generated documents stay accessible either way.

If my account returns to Free, do I keep my records and files?

Yes. Moving to Free never deletes employees, payroll history, or documents — everything already generated stays viewable and downloadable. If you have more than 2 active employees in a month, you will need Basic to keep running payroll for all of them. And even with 2 or fewer active employees, generating new paystubs, T4s, or ROE files requires Basic.

How does Beanflow calculate CPP, EI, and income tax?

Beanflow's payroll calculation engine is built from the CRA's T4127 payroll deduction formulas, and calculation cases are validated against the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator. Tax tables are versioned by tax year and updated when payroll rules change.

Can I switch payroll software mid-year?

Yes. Import your employees by CSV and use the guided catch-up payroll workflow to rebuild the current tax year from prior pay stubs, period by period, so your year-to-date records stay complete.

Does Beanflow file T4s and remit payroll deductions to the CRA?

No. Beanflow generates T4 slips and summaries as CRA-ready XML, plus source-deduction remittance summaries and due dates. You upload the T4 return and make the CRA payment yourself, so you remain in control of what is submitted.

Does Beanflow offer direct deposit?

Direct deposit is not available yet. Employers currently pay employees by e-transfer or cheque after the payroll run is approved.

Can Beanflow prepare a Record of Employment (ROE)?

For supported cases, Beanflow can prepare a draft ROE Web extract from your payroll records. You review the information and file the ROE through Service Canada; Beanflow does not submit it for you.

Which provinces and territories does Beanflow Payroll support?

Beanflow supports payroll in every Canadian province and territory except Quebec. Quebec payroll uses a separate provincial tax system and is not currently supported.

How is my payroll data protected?

Payroll data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Authentication uses Google Sign-In with OAuth 2.0, so Beanflow does not store your Google password. We do not sell your payroll data.
